William Lee Alexander (1833-1875) of McDowell County, NC, was a member of the Dialectic Society and graduated with first honors in 1854. He was a tutor of Latin from 1857 to 1858 and 1859 to 1860, then became a lawyer. Alexander served as a captain in the Confederate army. In 1860 he received the LLB degree.
